Whimsical Clay Character Workshop with J'aime Payne

  • Moosomin Visual Arts Centre 701 Ellice Street Moosomin, Saskatchewan, S0G 3N0 Canada (map)

 šŸŒ±WHIMSICAL CLAY CHARACTER WORKSHOP

You may have spotted J’aime's whimsical Pottery Plant People collection at the recent MVAC Art Show!

Now it's your turn to create a one-of-a-kind clay character of your own. These quirky creations combine pottery and plants to create charming little personalities with unique legs, shoes, poses, and plenty of character.

Whether your style is silly, stylish, elegant, or downright eccentric, no two Plant People ever turn out the same.

šŸ“…Session 1: Building Your Plant Person

In this hands-on workshop, you'll create:

  • Legs and feet

  • Shoes, boots, or other footwear

  • Lower body and support structure

  • Design elements that make your character uniquely yours

No pottery experience is required. J’aime will guide you through the process while encouraging creativity and experimentation.

šŸŽØSession 2: Glazing

Once your pieces have been bisque fired, you'll return to add colour and personality through glazing.

Session 1 is the most important session to attend as a group. Glazing can be completed during one-on-one appointments, Open Studio times, or one of several to-be-scheduled glazing opportunities.

Date to be determined at a later time.

šŸ¤‘Cost

  • $40 workshop fee

  • Plus clay by weight (pay only for what you use)

To help keep costs down, we'll be working with reclaimed clay whenever possible.

ABOUT J’AIME:

J’aime Payne is a business leader, creative entrepreneur, and community builder who brings together corporate expertise, artistic experience, and a strong understanding of rural community life in her work with the Moosomin Visual Arts Centre (MVAC).

Her career began in Toronto’s music industry as a professional songwriter before she moved into arts advocacy as Director of Member Services at the Canadian Recording Artists’ Association. In 2018, she founded The Snow Lake Initiative, a social enterprise that supported artists through microgrants and mentorship.

J’aime later founded and grew Breeze Business Management, a virtual bookkeeping firm serving clients across Canada, building expertise in operations, financial strategy, and sustainable growth. After relocating from Ontario to Saskatchewan in 2022 and now calling Moosomin home, she has spent the past two years deeply involved in the local community, bringing a valuable mix of big-city experience and small-town perspective.

As Treasurer of MVAC, she contributes strategic leadership, financial stewardship, and a strong vision for accessible, sustainable arts programming. She is also involved in local cultural initiatives, including starting the Little Film Fest on the Prairies, and works to make arts and culture more visible and connected in Moosomin.

In February 2026, J’aime launched Moosospin Studio, a dark boutique indoor cycling studio that reflects her passion for building thoughtful, community-centered experiences. Across every project, she is guided by the belief that creativity thrives when supported by strong infrastructure, practical systems, and inclusive opportunities.
